418Apex

We’re proud to be part of the transformation of 418Apex (418a a Elizabeth Street), a significant building on Sydney’s city fringe. Led by HFO Capital and Census Advisory, this project repositions the building with upgraded basement amenities, a refreshed lobby and a newly landscaped rooftop terrace—elevating both function and experience for occupants.

Project Highlights

Our structural engineering team played a key role in making the rooftop terrace vision a reality. Originally an inaccessible space reserved for plant equipment, the existing roof structure wasn’t designed to handle the increased loads from a fully activated terrace with landscaping. Our team conducted a detailed structural assessment, determining that while the existing slab couldn’t support the added weight, a lightweight floor frame could span to the existing concrete columns and walls with the necessary load-bearing capacity. This solution unlocked the feasibility of the project, ensuring the rooftop could move forward as planned.

Our scope also included designing the landscape shelter structure and supporting the lift upgrade, which now extends to the rooftop—enhancing accessibility for all tenants. A key challenge was navigating the floor frame structure around existing telco assets, which had to remain operational throughout the build.
