The JN structural team recently delivered designs for the fascinating Museum of Illusions Sydney.
Located at 413 George St, the museum challenges perception in fun and new ways while making physics and neuroscience more accessible.
The team delivered two components of the museum for architect BDAI Pty Ltd: the Building Illusion and the Reversed Room.
Works included reviewing existing documentation, preparation of a structural design statement, and engineering concealed structural framework.
The Building Illusion is a cleverly designed backdrop using perspective and forced scale to create the optical illusion that participants are hanging off the exterior of buildings.
One of the biggest challenges for the JN team was delivering the Reversed Room, an upside-down pub with stools and pool table hung from the ceiling. All items were designed to be climbed, which required the fixings to be hidden.
Another challenge of the Reversed Room, which was detailed in Building Information Modelling (BIM) software Revit, was not damaging the existing building and working around the HVAS system.
