Jones Nicholson is a full-service multi-disciplinary engineering consultancy. We have built a solid reputation throughout the construction industry over the past fifty years. In QLD, we are a small team of 8, encompassing Engineers, Designers, Drafters, and Administration Support. Our company expertise extends across each of the major engineering disciplines, from Building Services to Structural, Civil and a significant number of sub-disciplines, including Traffic engineering, Sustainable engineering, and Remedial Work. We operate across NSW and QLD and have around 70 employees overall. The business prides itself on having a flexible and family orientated culture.

In QLD, our employees work from home, and as a Senior Civil Engineer you can be based anywhere in Australia with the expectation that you will be available to travel to Southeast Queensland (where the majority of our team and clients are based) on at least a quarterly basis, or when the need arises.

At Jones Nicholson you will have the opportunity to design, collaborate and deliver on a range of projects. You will leverage your excellent technical skills to be the project expert on areas like traffic, storm water, floods, pavements, and road design. You will utilise your solid urban design expertise by modelling through DRAINS, MUSICX, and 12D.

Reporting to the Managing Director, you will be responsible for:

  • Providing strong technical advice and solutions with respect to planning, design development and construction practices;
  • Providing high levels of customer service, while negotiating the best outcomes for each project;
  • Assisting in the development of project plans, design budgets and monitoring the provision of design services against the budget;
  • Supporting the effective development and delivery of the projects;
  • Sharing your learnings, and providing guidance and mentoring to other team members.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • A minimum of 7 years’ experience working on civil engineering projects;
  • Registration as a RPEQ is highly desirable, however we are also open to supporting the right person to gain registration through this role;
  • Previous exposure working with traffic, stormwater, flooding, pavements, and road design is desirable;
  • Ability to design using DRAINS, MUSICX, and/or 12D;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication with the ability to draft reports and liaise with clients;
  • Working knowledge of QUDM (QLD Urban Design Manual), ARR 2019 (Aust, Rainfall and Runoff) and the Australian Building Standards;
  • Demonstrated time management and problem-solving skills to set work project and/or program priorities, monitor workflow and establish outcomes to achieve set goals.
