Traffic Engineering

Traffic engineering input early in the design process is one of the most effective ways to protect a development programme. The questions asked by consent authorities about vehicle access, network impact, and parking provision are predictable. Designing a solution that addresses these before the design is finalised avoids costly redesign and delays.

JN’s traffic engineers engage early in the design process to establish how a project will generate vehicle movements, how those movements interact with the surrounding road network, and what infrastructure or mitigation measures will be required to satisfy council and Roads and Maritime Services requirements.

JN has extensive experience in traffic engineering for various developments, ranging from kerb and gutter extensions through to quarry expansion applications and multi-storey developments.

JN’s traffic engineering capability includes mixed-use developments, industrial and logistics facilities, medical centres, schools, and residential subdivisions.

Traffic considerations are coordinated with road design, drainage and site layout from the outset through close collaboration with JN’s civil and structural engineers.

For developers and project managers, single-firm coordination reduces the friction that comes from managing multiple consultants with competing design assumptions. For councils and government clients, it means consistent documentation that is easier to assess.

Our areas of expertise include:

  • Traffic impact assessments
  • Traffic studies including SIDRA analysis traffic flow modelling
  • Road designs for major, industrial, distributor, collector and local roads, cul-de-sacs, laneways and accessways
  • Flexible and rigid pavement design
  • Swept path analysis manoeuvring plans for all vehicles
  • Traffic management plans
  • Construction traffic management plans
  • Car park layout design, including line marking and signage
  • Site safety assessments
  • Certification of design by accredited RMS Controller
  • Line marking and signage.
If your project requires a traffic impact assessment, a construction traffic management plan, or early advice on access and parking strategy, JN’s traffic engineers are available to assist across Sydney, Wollongong, the Southern Highlands, Goulburn, and the Gold Coast.
