It wouldn’t be a proper JN Golf Day without a bit of weather drama—and last Friday’s 42nd annual event certainly delivered.
The day began under a downpour from 6:00am, with fog so thick by tee-off at 8:00am that spotting your ball beyond 40 metres was more guesswork than skill. The rain persisted for the first hour, making the already-challenging conditions even more unpredictable. Wet grass and standing water meant the ball stopped dead on landing—no bounce, no roll, just splashdown. As Andrew Fisher put it, “It’s a good day to be a duck.”
Despite the weather, 37 courageous JN team members turned up, braving the elements with good humour. From Hole 6 onwards, the skies cleared and the course revealed itself—albeit still very soggy. Spirits lifted, and the game settled into a more familiar rhythm.
Played in Ambrose format across 7 teams of four and one team of three, the day wasn’t just about the scorecard. Greg Chambers, JN’s Managing Director, kept everyone fuelled with breakfast, sausage sandwiches for morning tea after Hole 13, and an impressive 100+ lamb and chicken souvlaki wraps for lunch—cooked across three BBQs in the course’s large shed. Meanwhile, Scott McLaughlin brought his personal espresso machine to the green, ensuring a steady supply of high-quality coffee throughout the day.
Held at Boomerang Public Golf Course in Maddon Plains, this year’s Golf Day turned a soggy start into a memorable outing—proof that a bit of weather can’t dampen the JN spirit.
