JN Conference 2024: Reflecting, Celebrating and Looking Forward

The JN team gathered at Gymea Tradies for our Annual Conference, bringing together colleagues from all our offices. The day was dedicated to reflecting on our achievements and setting the course for the future. Under the theme of “Looking to the Future,” the conference featured presentations, discussions and opportunities to connect as a team. The event began with a welcome and lunch, setting a productive and informative tone for the afternoon.

Speeches and Updates

Greg, in his first year as our Managing Director, provided an update on the company’s progress and direction. He reflected on the milestones we’ve achieved over the past year, including the implementation of new initiatives like Cognology and the appointment of our Commercial Manager, Kim Ziems. Greg also announced that Robert Mahony, Associate Civil Engineer, has been promoted to our Senior Leadership Team, highlighting JN’s commitment to recognising and elevating talent from within the organisation.

Our keynote speaker, Aaron Zamykal from Actualisation, delivered a compelling presentation on the evolution, benefits and challenges of AI in our industry. He emphasised that AI is more than just a trend; it’s a transformative tool that can help companies stay competitive. By automating routine tasks, AI frees up time for teams to focus on the specialised work that requires human insight and creativity. Aaron acknowledged our forward-thinking approach, stating, “JN are leading the way in thinking about how they can deploy AI for a sustainable future.” His insights sparked interest about the potential that AI could unlock for JN.

The spotlight then shifted to Chris Low, our Building Services Manager, and Kim Ziems, who discussed the progress we’ve made since last year’s convention and outlined our strategic priorities moving forward.

Chris provided a recap of efficiency improvements, highlighting initiatives such as the introduction of our iGUIDE Planix Pro 3D Camera, a cutting-edge tool that enhances our ability to create precise floor plans and 3D virtual tours, optimising project workflows and improving client collaboration. Additionally, the implementation of regular coordination meetings and structured start-up meetings, which bring engineers and drafters together from the outset, have further streamlined our processes and positioned JN as a leader in delivering responsive and high-quality engineering solutions.

Kim reflected on initiatives that have strengthened our internal culture and competitive position. She emphasised the importance of standing out by continuing to expand our network and digital presence, and by embracing technological and strategic innovations to keep us at the industry forefront. Kim reinforced JN’s commitment to training and development, including mental health training for managers and our “Lunch and Learn” sessions. Additionally, Kim highlighted our proud commitment to community engagement through charity work such as the Push-Up Challenge, which raised over $5,000 and demonstrated the supportive and collaborative culture at JN.
